Fort York station is located at Bathurst Street and Fort York Boulevard. This will provide easy subway access to the residents of the rapidly increasing Fort York neighbourhood as well as Historic Fort York. It will connect to the 511 Bathurst streetcar, which provides access to a number of restaurants as well as some of Toronto’s vibrant nightlife and connects with the Bloor West Subway Line at Bathurst station.

Historic Fort York is home to a number of Toronto’s oldest buildings and each year it attracts thousands of visitors learning about the history of this city64. In juxtaposition to this beautiful historic backdrop, with a predictive population density increase of 250% from 2006 to 2014 it is one of the fastest growing neighbourhoods in Toronto. There are 11 condos and lofts currently under construction within 500 m of Fort York and there are 3 more proposed condos in the area.

Despite the large number of developments currently being built there still remains potential for future growth. The area northwest of Fort York station is currently used for manufacturing. This is a remnant of an older era and as the Fort York neighbourhood continues to grow these areas will be ideal for future redevelopment.

The population surge that the Fort York neighbourhood is seeing will be followed by a growing demand for transportation. Fort York station will meet these growing demands as well as provide access to Historic Fort York, one of Toronto’s many historic sites.
